Corn Crib – South West Middlesex

PEN AND INK

Corn Crib.jpg

Corn cribs were once the best way to store the annual corn crop. These were all constructed of lumber from the farm woodlot. Today they are almost obsolete. Now farmers us corrugated round storage units. Like bank barns, corn cribs are disappearing from our ever-changing rural landscape. This particular structure is on Currie Rd. north of the Thames River on the big bend. I love the texture and the history of all these farm related buildings. Next to the corn crib is a unique barn. Watch for my new barn sketch coming soon. They will make a great duo for your wall. –Jenny
