John Deere 620 Tractor

A new client of mine allowed me and my hubby to view a small portion of his large tractor collection. We were awed by the pristine condition of each and every tractor. We were able to take some good photos indoors but the angle and proximity to other tractors limited us to what we could photo. Our host kindly invited me to exhibit and sell my prints at “Ploughing Days” in Glanworth on Tom Bradish’s farm. This is the thirteenth annual event sponsored by a handful of tractor collectors. Demonstrations, displays of tractors, vendors, a silent auction and a fish fry with live music are all part of this event. All funds raised will be donated to the Elgin General hospital and the Belmont Lions Club. This John Deere 620 tractor is part of the collection of Paul and Ruth Laidlaw of London Ontario

This Pen & Ink was originally commissioned by Alan Sim of Ridgetown

for his friend Dirk Verbeek. Dirk, a retired farmer now living in Ridgetown,

came to Canada after WWII. He bought a 3130 John Deere tractor and added a generic cab cover. Later the 3130 was replaced with a

3140 John Derre ... "nothing runs like a Deere," or so their advertisement

says.

Alan and Dirk visited Dutton a while back and stopped into our gallery;

had coffee at Laramy's Restaurant next door and read my sign "Browsers

and Art Lovers Welcome". They had a good gander at all my paintings and

sketches and spent a long time reminiscing about the old days. A few days later Alan showed up with this great idea of a surprise Christmas gift for his friend. I love making wishes come true.

Come for a visit and browse all you want.  -  Jenny

Dave and I made a day trip to the former Agricultural Museum at Milton, ON. No longer under the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture, this not-for-profit is operated as Country Heritage Park. The passionate, dedicated board of directors and the volunteers, along with various organizations like the different tractor clubs and the heavy Horse Assoc. of Ontario have done an excellent job. The admission was only $7 per adult, a dollar less for seniors like us. The CHP hosts several annual events including a heavy horse day with demonstrations of plowing, mowing, binding, threshing and horse drawn wagon rides. The website has an events calendar at www.countryheritagepark,com   We took in the antique tractor show that featured the Ford Tractors for 2010. We hopped on the tractor drawn wagons that took us around the park. There was so much to see we vowed to return another day to check out what we missed. The John Deere Tractor Club and/or the John Deere Co. have a wonderful permanent display at the park. They opened the drive shed door to display the restored antique John Deere tractors and equipment for the public to enjoy. Out front this Unstyled “A” graced the lawn. The whole exhibit is right on a corner conveniently located beside the drop off for the tractor-pulled wagons. Dave and I didn’t have to walk far to feast our eyes on these green and yellow gems. See for yourself. – Jenny

David and I like to travel around taking photos as reference for either paintings or pen & ink sketches. I have a hundreds but I’m always on the lookout for something interesting that I don’t already have. The other day our friend and client brought in a family photo to be framed. Her people were all gathered around an old John Deere tractor. It was one I did not have in my collection. I asked Celesta for permission to use a copy of her photo as a reference for a pen & ink sketch of this historic tractor. The first John Deere ‘B’ tractor. Their whole family is great. I received permission. Here is an open edition print of my pen & ink rendering of the 1935 John Deere General Purpose ‘B’ tractor. Wonderful folks here in our Dutton Dunwich community. Thank you one and all.  -  Jenny

John Deere Waterloo Boy

In 1895 Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Company was renamed the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company, and once again began to manufacture tractors in 1911 after a period of research and development, but no tractors sold well until 1913, when twenty "Waterloo Boy" tractors were produced. In 1914 the company introduced the Model R Waterloo Boy. This tractor was very popular, and by 1918 over 8,000 had been sold. Other popular models were the Model N, which was introduced in the latter part of 1916. Both the Model R and Model N used kerosene for fuel.

The company was bought out by Deere & Company and they continued to sell tractors under the Waterloo Boy name until 1023.

Don't cha love learning all this history about these wonderful old tractors.

I do. - Jenny
